STAY TOGETHER
Stay Together
General Maximus comes to Rome dirty and shackled. This is not the way it's supposed to be. Where's Rome's legendary pageantry to greet one of her war heroes—the heraldry, the burnished armor, the laurel crown? Where's the honor due him?
Maximus comes a slave.
That's the premise of the movie Gladiator. Through a maze of events, Maximus goes from celebrated warrior, favorite of one emperor, to despised traitor, nemesis of another. He becomes a fugitive, then caged slave, then unvanquished gladiator. His growing fame in the arena brings him to the sport's pinnacle: Rome's magnificent Coliseum to face her elite warriors.
The games open with a re-enactment of the battle of Carthage. The gladiators, all foot soldiers, are cast as the hapless Carthaginians. It is a stage for slaughter. They are marched out a dark passageway into brilliant sunlight and met with a roar of bloodlust.
Maximus, their leader, shouts to his men: "Stay together." He assembles them in a tight circle in the center of the arena: back-to-back, shields aloft, spears outward. Again he shouts, "Whatever comes out that gate, stay together."
What comes out that gate is swift and sleek and full of terror. Chariot upon chariot thunder forth. War horses pull, with deadly agility and earthshaking strength, wagons driven by master charioteers. Amazonian warrior princesses ride behind and with deadly precision hurl spears and volley arrows. One gladiator strays from the circle, ignoring Maximus's order, and is cut down. Maximus shouts once more: "Stay together!"
The instinct to scatter is strong. But Maximus exerts his authority, and they resist that impulse. The chariots circle, closer, closer, closer. Spears and arrows rain down on the men's wood shields. The chariots are about to cinch the knot. Right then Maximus shouts, "Now!"
The gladiators attack, and decimate the Romans. Commodus, the evil emperor, caustically remarks to the games organizer: "My memory of Roman history is rusty, but didn't we beat Carthage the first time?"
Fellas, everyone on this team has a decision to make, by that I mean EVERYONE, that includes all the coaches and especially me. It also means EVERYONE in the program from Seniors to Juniors to Sophomores and Freshman. It includes our Task Force, our Families and our fans. The decision is a simple one STAY TOGETHER. Don't stray away from the group as a team, a school and a community as Park City.
We have to rally behind each other and live our Team motto: WE ARE ONE. We say it everyday and now we realize in these adverse times that we have to group together stand back to back and hold on tight. We are one a bumpy ride right now and WE have all the tools to be great, but it will take buy in from everyone and a belief, not just a believe that we can win, but that we will win. And that belief needs to practiced to perfection everyday on and off the field. Starting with being great students and preparing for the quarte and semester ahead. Followed by effort Nd focus on the game for the week. Preparing not just on the practice field but using all the tools that we provide to you including hudl and our scouting reports and most importantly, preparing to play and to win as a TEAM.
STAY TOGETHER!
WIN THE DAY
WE ARE ONE!

GUESS WHO'S BACK, BACK AGAIN....
I was very aware that I had not updated my blog in some time (since March 4th), and three years at Park City has taught me one thing, I am way more busy in the spring preparing for the season than I am busy during the fall season.
So, being that this is my first post in 3 almost 4 months, I won't over-do it with a long message. Also, because I honestly don't think that the players used the blog in any way, it became some what of a bak burner project. However, with the push we are making with hudl and eventually Proprof.com (an on-line quiz site and study tracker, not just football study but school study as well), I figured I would pick up my end of the bargain and continue on with this SAGA that is "THE COACHES BLOG". I need a new name for the blog, so what I am proposing to you is to come up with an idea for the name of the coaches blog. When you have a SERIOUS and APPROPRIATE answer you can come tell me your suggestion, why you suggest it, as well as fill me in on the other info throughout THIS post. This will give me an idea of how many check the blog and who jus ignores it.
So... First piece of information... Team Camp is coming up quick. Camp will begin start Monday July 9th and Finish Thursday July 12th. The first two days will be in pads meeting at 8 am (location TBD) and on the field by 9 until 11:30 am. The next two days Weds and Thurs will be spent with our highly qualified and sucessful guest coaching staff from Glacier Peak, WA. Weds will be full pads again, thurs will be helmets only. Wednesday's practice will be broken up into 4 (four) different 90 minute session. So practice will run from 8:30 am until 4:30 pm. Thursday will be very similar, with the same start times, and instead of 4 (four) 90 minute periods there will only be 3 (three) sessions, excusing the players from play around 3 pm. Lunches will be provided.
LAST THING. IF YOU PLAN TO PLAY AND STEP ON THE FIELD AND HAVE YOUR TEAMMATES TRUST AND NO THAT THE GUY NEXT TO YOU IS GOING TO WORK FOR YOU AS WELL, THEN YOU BETTER START SHOWING UP TO WORKOUT SESSIONS. BECAUSE WE CAN'T GET LOST IN JUST DOING OUR OWN THING, STEP UP AND CALL YOUR BOYS OUT. THESE WORKOUTS FORGE BONDS THROUGH THE WORK YOU DO TOGETHER. POSSIBLY, SOMETHING THAT WILL NEVER BE MATCHED AGAIN IN YOUR LIFE.
REMEMBER THOSE 8 FRIDAYS LAST SEASON, WALKING OFF THE FIELD OR RIDING ON THE BUS AND HOW MUCH THOSE 8 LOSSES HURT AND HOW THEY COMPOUND. WELL, NOW IS THE TIME TO DITCH THE PITY PARTY AND GET TO WORK.

Catching Up...
We are continuing our morning workouts for all incoming 9th through 12th graders, Monday-Wedsneday-Friday at 7 am as well as having the weight-room open each day after school at 2:45 Monday through Thursday...
We have had a pretty good turn out in the morning so far, from about 12-25 players. We have been getting a lot of really good work done, reviewing technique and making sure that our drills are run correctly so that we get the most out of our time spent. We are also reviewing and revamping our play calling and sideline communication.
Our after school workouts have not been as populated however and the coaching staff would love to see more students in the weight-room after school. Of course we have a great representation of our athletes competing in all spring sports and we will continue to support our players to participate in all aspects of Miner athletics! Having said that, if you are not participating in a spring sport we would like to have everyone in the weight-room as we will be amping up our workouts with some very good strength and conditioning program. We will be implementing several new and very effective techniques that we are excited to see the results of.
Lastly, we will continue to have the sign-in sheet at the office desk in the weight-room. So, please make sure you come up and initial the sign-in sheet. We are keeping close track of who is working out after school and who is doing a spring sport. Remember, that continuing on a good strength and conditioning, healthy diet and good rest are the best way to prevent injuries and guarantee that the coaching staff is seeing your great work ethic will pay-off in a chance at increased playing time and the possibility of earning a starting position on the Frosh, JV or Varsity team.
The past two weeks have been going well, now lets step it up and keep the edge on any of our 2012 opponents!

FINALLY! This is something I have been stumped about forever...
After years of research and numerous times hearing my wife say, "Well if you love RoboCop so much, why dont you marry him?" Well Honey, I don't LOVE RoboCop, I just idolize him.
And now, life and all its mysteries seem so simple. Thank you RoboCop!
