FINALLY! This is something I have been stumped about forever...

After years of research and numerous times hearing my wife say, "Well if you love RoboCop so much, why dont you marry him?" Well Honey, I don't LOVE RoboCop, I just idolize him.
And now, life and all its mysteries seem so simple.  Thank you RoboCop!

GEAR CHECK IN

Mom, have you seen my hip pads?
Gear check-in begins tomorrow at 2:50 in the back gym.  Monday will be seniors only, unless you have previously made special arrangements with me.  Gear is to be washed, organized and ready to be completely turned in, any piece of equipment, from shoulder pads down to knee pads that are not turned in, you will be billed for, the same goes for Jerseys, whether they are varsity/jv jersey or Frosh.  These are very expensive and complicated to reorder, so MAKE SURE you have your washed.
Gear Return Schedule:
Monday- Seniors
Tuesday- JR and SO
Weds- Frosh
Thurs- Thursday will be held as a make-up day if you were not able to be there on your assigned day.

After Thursdays turn in is closed, all gear not turned in will be considered late and/or lost and we will send the front office the bill.

I hate to be such a stickler about this, but it costs our program thousands of dollars a year to replace what is lost and NEVER returned.
Lastly, to be noted, if you are a Junior, Soph, or Frosh... If you have not turned in a piece of equipment for the 2011 season, you will not be issued that equipment for next season until it is found or replaced.

Thanks, See you all Soon.
Weight Room is open 5 days a week after school.  Get in there, if you did not see that we were under prepared this season, then you need to know now and get in there and be ready to come back with a bang next year.

Judge Memorial Game and Other Things...

First and foremost, we go into a game this week, that with a win, means a possible # 2 seeding for playoffs and with any luck from other games (Go Judge! Beat Juan Diego) a possible share of the Region X Championship again.  But we have to win our next two games one at a time.  Playing Judge Memorial at home for senior night this week is the BIGGEST GAME OF YOU LIFE THIS WEEK.  We need to start fast, win every play, snap to whistle, pick up our tempo and spirits and and play fast all game, using our speed to move the ball and stop a high-powered judge offense and most of all FINISH STRONG.
Coach Vincent spoke to the team at saturdays meeting about being able to cover the man to your left with your shield.  Always look out for your teammates, on and off the field.
In other news, we will be taking our team over to Silver Mountain Spa this saturday after film, to put up the dome.  This is a great opportunity for us to get out and do something for our community.  It should only take a couple hours and pizza and smoothies will be provided.  We did it in record time last year, so we can do it again.  Thanks to Stanton Jones, Silver Mountain and PCTV for all their support!  And I think Tracy Jordan said it best when he said
"Live Every Week like it's Shark Week"

PERSEVERANCE

I have been doing a lot of thinking about where we are as a team and I have been proud of the improvements we have made in the past two weeks... However we are coming up just short.  My wife sent me this story about ultrarunner Dean Karnazes along with some quotes; she does have to live with me after all so she tries to keep my spirits up, which is GREATLY appreciated... Short Story....

In junior high, Dean Karnazes met Soap McTavish, a track coach who became Karnazes’ mentor and introduced him to the appeal of long-distance running. McTavish's basic running instructions were simple: "Go out hard and finish harder." Using this motto as a basis, that season Karnazes won the one-mile California State Long-Distance Championship held on the Mt SAC track. At the end of the race, Coach McTavish commented: "Good work son, how'd it feel?" To this Karnazes replied: "Well, going out hard was the right thing to do. It felt pretty good." The coach replied: "If it felt good, you didn’t push hard enough. It’s supposed to hurt like hell." A week after the race, Karnazes' father's job was transferred to San Clemente. These were the last comments the coach ever said to Karnazes, who has stated that he lives by these words to this day.

GO OUT HARD AND FINISH HARDER!

This is exactly what we speak about EVERYDAY: Start Fast, Play Hard, Finish Strong... Today leave everything you have on the field... What you keep you lose forever.

REMEMBER WHY YOU PLAY!

NEVER, NEVER, NEVER GIVE UP!
WHEN YOU'RE GOING THROUGH HELL KEEP GOING.
-WINSTON CHURCHILL

AND I COULDN'T RESIST THIS ONE...

YAMANASHI ALWAYS PERSEVERED!!!

LET'S GO GET THE WIN THAT WE HAVE WORKED SO HARD FOR, FOR SO LONG!

WIN THE DAY!

Alexander and The Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day

Take a few minutes to look at this video. It's an old children's book, but I think it goes to show we all have bad days....

                                                      Alexanders bad day...

We have had a rough start this season, but it is far from over.  We, as coaches, still truly believe in all of you and we are DEVOTED to finishing this season strong and reclaiming our REGION X TITLE.  We need all of you as players, parents, boosters and student fans to stay the course with the season and SUPPORT OUR PROGRAM and, especially, have players supporting each other and the coaches.

Now we have one thing to focus on: JUAB. We will need to come out like we discuss every day...

START FAST
PLAY HARD
FINISH STRONG!

We need to WIN this game and when we do, we can use the momentum to roll into Region play and be ready to take on a Union team that has given us fits in the past.

Let's stay on top of this and come out focused this week.  Practice like you want to play.

We will be watching film with Varsity on Monday after school in Coach Fine's classroom.  The JV team will be taking the field with half the coaching staff, in order to practice scout team plays on offense and defense.  Frosh will be practicing on the grass horseshoe field.  When we finish film and meeting, we will take the field to begin practice and prepare for a good JUAB team that beat Wasatch on Friday night.  Be prepared to play and make sure that we show the rest of our opponents that we will NOT roll over and we will NEVER GIVE UP...
WIN THE DAY!

Next Two Days

GAME TIME!!!
Ok fellas, here we go... We are two days away from the beginning of the 2011 season. I want to make sure that we are all clear on what our plans are for the next two days. Tomorrow, we will have practice at 2:45 as usual, however, we will only be in shells, helmets and shoulder pads. Following practice tomorrow we will be issuing spirit wear and uniforms for the game friday night.  Once you have gotten the gear we will be having our first team dinner on the field by the snack shack around 5:30 or 6:00... We have a lot of parents that have made a great effort to provide us with a great meal and a good time.  We need to be focusing on the task at hand... Game in less than 48 hours. Start Fast!

GAME WEEK!!!!

5 days to our 2011 season opener hosting Spanish Fork! We will be having practice this week beginning each day at 2:45 pm for pre-practice... I would suggest getting to the locker room in plenty of time to dress and make it to the field, especially if you need to see a coach about equipment or Robbie about an injury or any other reason you may need help.  Monday we will be starting by watching Spanish Fork film at 2:45, more than likely in the Lecture Hall, depending on any other scheduling conflicts. If the location changes, it will be posted on the locker room white board in plenty of time.
Remember, this is going to be treated like any other week of school with Practice at 2:45 on the field, Tues-Weds-Thurs, Monday and Tuesday will be full pads and we will either be in shells or pads on weds and thurs.  Get ready and get focused for the game this week. Set the tone.
Start Fast, Play Hard, Finish Strong... WIN THE DAY...

Rooster Cogburn: You go for a man hard enough and fast enough, he don't have time to think about how many's with him; he thinks about himself, and how he might get clear of that wrath that's about to set down on him

Conditioning Camp and So On...

Players,
The next two days please bring cleats and athletic shoes as well as your helmet.
We are officially less than 3 weeks from our first game. The coaching staff, as well as guest coaches felt the Team Camp was an enormous success and the team got better individually and as a whole.
UNITY!!
Now, we move on to our conditioning camp and the beginning of a 3 week run into our first game. We play host to a very successful and experienced Spanish Fork program on August 19th, we will need to use every minute of the next 3 weeks very efficiently to prepare for this and our following games. Conditioning camp starts on Monday morning at 8 AM. We will begin in the lecture hall with team meetings and working on team unity and leadership activities...

Following our team meeting we will be having a guest speaker for the team that will tell us about the Gold Card Fundraiser we have coming up.  This will only take about 10 minutes, then we will begin our Strength and Conditioning Testing. Strength and conditioning tests the next two day will include bench, squat, cleans, vertical and broad jump, 40 test and shuttle runs.

We will also be having concussion tests the next 2 days and we are hosting the Ute Conference Kids Camp monday and tuesday from 5 until 7, this camp is an opportunity for our players to work with the Ute Conference players.

The season is almost here.  Time to get prepared!
